Mominul and Shanto stabilize innings until lunch following Akash Deep's early wickets.

Akash Deep made a significant impact early on in the second Test in Kanpur, claiming two wickets on the first morning to give India an early lead. However, Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque formed a solid partnership, adding 45 runs without losing a wicket to keep the match balanced at lunch.

As the final over before the break was being bowled, light rain began to fall, prompting the ground staff to cover the pitch quickly when play paused.

India's captain Rohit Sharma had hoped his seamers would capitalize on the overcast conditions, maintaining the same lineup after a delayed start due to rain. Jasprit Bumrah began well, moving the ball and bowling three maidens, but failed to take a wicket. Mohammed Siraj also struggled to break through, as Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan successfully negotiated the opening spells, with Zakir notably remaining scoreless after 20 deliveries.

The game shifted when Akash Deep was introduced in the ninth over. He quickly made his mark, taking Zakir's wicket with a catch at gully by Yashasvi Jaiswal, following a review that confirmed the catch was valid.

Shortly after, Akash Deep struck again, targeting Shadman. Despite the on-field umpire rejecting a strong lbw appeal, India's review showed the ball would have hit leg stump, leading to Shadman’s dismissal.

Shanto approached his innings with aggression, finding some boundaries, while Mominul also gained confidence, hitting Akash Deep and Siraj for fours and driving Bumrah for another boundary. While Bangladesh managed to settle a bit, they knew it was just the beginning.

The toss was postponed by an hour due to a wet outfield, and when India won, Rohit opted to bowl in the cloudy conditions. This marked the first time since 2015 that India chose to field first in a home Test, and it was the first instance at Green Park since 1964 when a team decided to bowl.

Rohit noted that the pitch had a bit more grass and was softer than usual. In contrast, Bangladesh preferred to bat first, selecting three spinners by bringing in Khaled Ahmed and Taijul Islam for Nahid

Rana and Taskin Ahmed.
