Jude Bellingham discovers fate for alleged 'rapist' comment aimed at Mason Greenwood

The investigation into an alleged offensive remark made by Real Madrid sensation Jude Bellingham towards Man Utd loanee Mason Greenwood during a recent La Liga match has been dismissed

The investigation into Jude Bellingham's alleged offensive comment towards Mason Greenwood during a La Liga fixture has been closed.

Bellingham, who has taken Spanish football by storm this season for Real Madrid, came up against compatriot Greenwood on February 1. But the Los Blancos star found himself in hot water after Getafe reported him to LaLiga over allegedly calling Greenwood, who also joined Madrid-based outfit Getafe in the summer, a ‘rapist’.

The incident came after on-loan Manchester United forward Greenwood had charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February 2023. Greenwood always denied the charges.
Reports later stated Greenwood did not want the investigation into Bellingham to go on. And now the Spanish football federation has said they cannot prove what Bellingham said despite lip-reading experts being brought in to analyse the footage.

TV cameras had shown Bellingham, 20, muttering something under his breath after a meaty challenge on Greenwood by the touchline. Following Real’s 2-0 win, the footage went viral on social media.

Meanwhile Greenwood, 22, left United on loan last summer as the club did not see him as part of their future plans. But now, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who recently completed a partial takeover of Manchester United, might be willing to give him another chance.

The Ineos owner has said he will consider Greenwood's future with the club again when the summer comes. He explained: "It's quite clear we have to make a decision. There is no decision that's been made. He's on-loan obviously, but he's not the only one. We've got one or two footballers that we have to deal with and we have to make a decision on, so we will do that.

He also added: "The process will be: understand the facts not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of values, which is basically is he a good guy or not?

"Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well, would we be comfortable with it and would the fans be comfortable with it?" Greenwood's current contract with United lasts until the summer of 2025.
