Barbra Streisand Honors Kris Kristofferson: ‘I Recognized His Unique Talent’

Barbra Streisand has paid tribute to her late co-star Kris Kristofferson from *A Star Is Born*. In a social media post, she recounted how she cast him after witnessing his live performance.

“I first saw Kris at the Troubadour in L.A.,” Streisand shared. “He was barefoot, playing his guitar, and I knew he was exceptional. He was the ideal fit for the script I was working on, which became *A Star Is Born*. In the film, we performed the song I wrote for its central love theme, ‘Evergreen.’”

Streisand also reminisced about a special moment in 2019 when she invited Kristofferson to join her on stage at her concert in Hyde Park to sing their duet, “Lost Inside Of You.” She noted how charming he was and how warmly the audience responded. “It was wonderful to see him receive the admiration he deserved. My thoughts are with his wife, Lisa, who always supported him.”

Directed by Frank Pierson, *A Star Is Born* premiered in 1976, featuring Streisand as an aspiring singer who falls for a rock star, played by Kristofferson, whose career begins to wane as hers rises. The song “Evergreen” won an Oscar for Best Original Song, and both actors received Golden Globe Awards for their roles.
